Internet Texas Hold'em Author Wins $750k
May 07, 2008
The Full Tilt Poker Sunday $750,000 Guaranteed last weekend went to none other than professional poker player and poker author, Matthew Hilger. Hilger's tournament play this year has been phenomenal, with 9 tournament entries yielding 3 finishes in the top 100, 2 final table finishes and this, his latest victory, a first place finish for $132,000.
After his Full Tilt Poker win, Hilger now believes that he can focus on the upcoming 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) with full confidence. "I definitely feel more ready than I ever have, as I have played a lot more online in the past year so I won't be rusty going into the WSOP."
Hilger continued, noting the beneficial preparations for both the WSOP and his upcoming poker book. "I must also say that working with Rizen, Pearljammer, and Apestyles [online poker players] on the poker hands book has been helpful in simply being able to talk with these guys on a regular basis as well as learning a few tricks here and there by reviewing their manuscript."
Hilger has cashed 9 times in the last four years of the WSOP, including 3 Main Event cashes.
Matthew Hilger did not turn his attentions to playing online poker until the release of his poker book, 'Internet Texas Hold'em'. When the book hit stands, Hilger opened an online community, frequenting poker forums and absorbing various poker strategy articles, especially those that pertained to rewarding poker bonuses.
Hilger's literary genius has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Atlanta-Journal Constitution and All-In Magazine. He is a contributing writer for Card Player Magazine and claims a seat on the Colombianitos board of directors, a charity organization that assists disadvantaged youth in Colombia.
