Poker Player Wins Bodog $100k & Full Tilt $750k Guaranteed
Jul 19, 2008
Mark “dipthrong” Herm made history this weekend by taking down two of Sunday’s major online poker tournaments. First, “dipthrong” whittled his way into 1st position at the Bodog Poker $100k Guaranteed, and only a few hours later, eliminated the entire field of the Full Tilt Poker $750k Guaranteed.
At 4:00 p.m. ET, a group of 783 expectant poker players offered up the $100+$9 buy-in to converge on the Bodog Poker No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament tables, hoping to collect their share of a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool. After hours of play, “dipthrong” found himself seated at the final table, followed by eventual heads-up play against “1ManCrew”. The top 90 positions would earn a share of the $100k GP, but it was “dipthrong” who took the 1st place prize of $23,600.
Four hours after the start of the Bodog Poker $100k GP, “dipthrong” joined the ranks of the largest weekly online poker tournament at Full Tilt Poker, the $750k Guaranteed with a buy-in of $200+$16. The field was a little larger this time – nearly 6 times larger, in fact – attracting a total of 4,173 entries, which jumped the guaranteed prize to $834,600.
It took “diptrhong” close to 8 hours to oust his competitors, finally sending “DG101” to the rails in heads-up play to take down the tournament. It was certainly worth the days effort as in the end, he earned the 1st place prize $147,382.01. (Yes, and a penny!)
Mark “dipthrong” Herm’s amazing accomplishment only goes to further support the fact (to any unbelieving US Congressman who may be listening) that poker is not just a game of luck, but involves an intense level of skill. One simply does not get that lucky against 4,954 other players, spanning two of the most grueling online poker tournaments, in the same day.
