Online poker room Full Tilt was a packed house, bubbling with excitement and anticipation over the weekend as the 8th Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS VIII) was in full swing. Events #6 and #7 were held Saturday, followed by one of those wildly intriguing 'mystery tournaments' on Sunday.
Saturday - Event #6
Kicking off the weekend was Event #6, with a buy-in of $500 + $35. A field of 637 broke the $300,000 guaranteed prize pool, jumping it by $18,500. The final table came down to heads-up action between "mmmadd" and "scatterbrain123", but in the end, it was "mmmadd" who took the 1st place prize of $68,477.50. Coming in 2nd, "scatterbrain" pocketed $44,908.50 for his near victorious efforts.
Saturday - Event #7
Later on that day, FTOPS VIII Event #7 got underway as 1,811 poker players bought their way into the $100 + $9 NL Hold'em event, with rebuys and add-ons. A total of 2,675 rebuys and 1,041 add-ons spiked the guaranteed prize of half a million to $552,700.
With one of the most intimidating fields of the FTOPS VIII thus far, it was Jorn "jornx" Walthaus, a highly respected Dutch poker pro, who took home the 1st place prize of $102,249.50, followed by "Sebop" in 2nd with $$63,007.80. Full Tilt Pro Erick Lindgren was the only member of Team Full Tilt to get close to the final table, but was sent to the rails in 13th position.
Sunday - Event #8
Event #8 of the FTOPS VIII series was originally scheduled as a 'mystery tournament', one of three such events that caused a profusion of whispered rumors and speculations around the virtual water cooler. Just before the series got underway, Full Tilt Poker announced the intentions of it's mystery tournaments, turning out to be FTOPS first shootout style tournaments.
Sunday's 'mystery tournament' was revealed as a $500 + $35 Heads-Up Shootout that saw 512 entries and a final prize pool of $256,000. When all was said and done, "GoToChurch" finished as the leader, claiming $51,200 for the 1st place victory. Taking the 2nd position was "Boondy", collecting a cash of $29,952.
